Measurement Help
Some measurements should be taken with a tape measure while others are better with a straight-edge ruler.
A.  Width across the top (side) of the front leg
This tells me how wide to make the vest, basically how deep the shoulder is. It should be taken where the leg meets the body, not down on the leg, straight across the leg at the top of the forearm. It can also be taken from the base of the neck, along the spine, to the a spot on the spine in line with the back edge of the shoulder blade.

How wide does your dog's vest need to be to cover just the shoulder area and still have the back strap fit comfortably behind the front legs?
Ruler

B.  Over the back from the top of one leg to the top of the other
This is taken from elbow to elbow, over the back. It should not come down on the leg.

How long should your dog's vest be so that the halo rides on the lower part of the shoulder (the "upper arm" in the diagram) and 1" (2.5cm) is allowed on each end for fastening the straps? This is often about 2/3s of the girth (C).
Tape

C.  Girth - all the way around just behind the front legs
What's your dog's chest measurement right behind the front legs?
Tape

D.  Across the chest from in front of one leg to in front of the other
Measure across the chest from the point of one upper arm to the other.

Looking at the dog head-on, how wide is the dog from side to side. This is about how long I make the front strap.
Ruler

E.  From the front of the shoulder to the tip of the nose
Have the dog standing and the head held in a normal position (do not stretch the neck). Measure from the side of the neck where the neck vertebrae meets the front of the shoulder bone to the nose.

While in a normal standing position, what is the distance from the side of the neck at the collar to the nose?
